After a successful career as a writer and visualiser in the fashion and advertising industries, Claire moved to interior design. She studied the art of the painted finish, which she taught for 15 years while continuing her interior design business and accepting commissions for residential and commercial trompe l’oeil projects. During this time, Claire also designed and hand-painted a collection of furniture and decorative accessories for retailers and private collectors.

In 2000, Claire decided to move into the exciting world of pure artworks on paper and canvas where she has demonstrated her passion for colour and loose style with graphic qualities across various mediums.

“My first solo exhibition was at Jeffrey Malessa’s Gallery in Sorrento, Victoria. My inspiration came from a love of beautiful flowers, objets d’art and travel across Europe. These influenced my very detailed works with an explosion of colour featuring birds of paradise, roses of Kakadu and drifts of agapanthus, to name a few. At the time I was experimenting with different mediums including acrylics and watercolour gouache.”

Claire’s current works are in oils on linen. Many are very large and graphic, with an emphasis on dramatic colourful images of oversize florals, couta boats, portraits, african beads and moonah trees.

Claire has had a number of solo and group exhibitions including at Delgany, Manyung, Portsea and Eden Gardens. Her work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas.

Claire teaches painting in oils or acrylics at Sorrento Community Centre, and her home in Rye. Please contact her directly for details of classes.
