I am a painter, but my practice involves lots of materials, styles and methods of art making, I have loved drawing and painting since I was five years of age when my neighbour, a commercial artist, gave my first painting lesson.
I am inspired by artists of the past and present, mostly Impressionists, but in reality, I love any art that I consider engages me as the viewer. Turner’s colourful sunsets, Bonhur’s stunning horses, and Sutherland’s atmospheric Australian landscapes are examples of art that I keep being inspired by, over and over, just for their emotive beauty. I love the Australian bush and seaside, its animals, and unique colours and atmosphere.
I also have a lifelong love of horses, both riding and drawing or painting them. My own horses have provided inspiration in my art, and they have helped to keep me sane over the years.
My favourite medium is oils, but I also use pastel, charcoal, water colours and acrylics.
I have recently been experimenting with sculptural material like clay, modelling paste and even glues, and acrylic painting techniques like pours to create unique conflations. For me, art is not something that I do, it is so imbedded in me, that it is what I am. I can’t imagine life without it.
